Book Review- Pooh and the Philosophers (In which it is shown that all of Western Philosophy is merely a preamble to Winnie-the-Pooh)

On Ms Yee's request, 4J's to do a short book review. (: Well, nobody's done so, so I'll start the ball rolling since I'm currently reading "Pooh and the Philosophers (In which it is shown that all of Western Philosophy is merely a preamble to Winnie-the-Pooh)" By John Tyerman Williams.

It is an extremely mind boggling book- I didn't choose it on deliberation, my dad did for me. But it is very interesting because it exposed me to many secular perceptions, and it brought quite a bit of twist to the original Winnie-the-Pooh story I knew.

However, I must say that I disagree at some of the author's allegories that make a few of the connections seem a little too forced. For an example when the author expounded about the purpose of the blue balloon used by Winnie-the-Pooh to get to the honey, was interpreted as a symbolization of earth.

"The shape of the balloon makes the elementary symbolism obvious enough, while the picture of the balloon floating in the air is as near to the earth floating in space as the imaginative limits of the parable allow. Nevertheless, this picture prompts some questions. It even raises what the shallow-minded may consider difficulties."

Throughout the whole book, I received a feeling of condemnation whenever I thought otherwise of the author's theories.

In any case, some theories and ideas were agreeable, like for an example, when the author explained about the use of the Useful Pot given to Eeyore as a birthday present, and the perception of Christopher Robin as a person whom is satisfied with his mind's own narrow limits and its equally narrow world. One time is when Winnie-the-Pooh asked him what the North Pole is, and he answered carelessly, although not being quite sure of the answer himself.

In all, the book is educational on philosophy, explaining many of the terms with simple examples from the Hundred Acre Wood. But being part of the 'superficial and blinded generation', I really do wonder if Milne (author of Winnie-the-Pooh) did intend every single philosophical meaning to every word.

I took me a bit of time to understand the book, but do read the book if you like philosophy, Winnie-the-Pooh and new Winnie-the-Pooh twists. (:

The Thing That You've All Been Waiting For.

Greetings Little Friends!

The moment you've been waiting for is arriving- 4J class outing on the 12th of June 2009!

We will be meeting at Cityhall Mrt at 5pm, and then we'll take a leisure stroll to Suntec for dinner. The place where we will be having our dinner is called Just Noodles, (And as you can see, you cannot order rice.) with just 10 Singapore dollars, you can have your pick of your main course. Also, for all those gluttonous little friends out there, the 10 Singaporean dollars comes with freeflow of ice-cream and drinks.

Unfortunately, we will not be accompanied by some of our little friends, it's impossible to get a perfect date where everyone is available, so, my apologies, little friends.

Also, there will be a second outing on the last week of the school holidays. Basically it's just a mugging session that I think is appropriate for the 99.9999% mugging population in our class.

( For those who duno wad this film is about, it's actually about 2 high school girls, who loves this 4pm show. And one day, the plump gal get to go for the auditions, but sadly she failed. But somehow, she got in at the end, (veh complicating), den she went for this party which is to tell the dancers that there'll be no more "negro day" [ a day where R&B songs and dances are broadcasted instead]. Then she went to protest {alongside with the african americans} and ended up almost being caught by police. She finally barged into the competition with a few tactics and I think she won Miss (I-duno-wad). Yea. [she fell in love wif tis guy [played by zac efron] before she got into the show. Den he fell in love with her. den blah blah. =))I love to wrte in white :X

hello jingamathingie! :D emily here! hehe... enjoyed level camp? ;) i'm sure everyone loved it. PAHANG and TERENGGANU was like so super fun and i totally loved our bus rides! :D our unique and high 3j bus rides! <3

Okay! These are very nice designs, painstakingly designed our dear 3J friends! I like Ziyan's design, but if the rest of the class wants to go with another design it'll be great too! Sorry JIAHUI the HOTTIE, your design may not be suitable because there are too many colors involved!(:

And anyway, I feel it will be more convenient for the subject reps to post the ppts, info and etc on jingamathingie@gmail.com. This way, our classmates can access the stuffs by themselves and save quite a bit of trouble! Also, it can help keep our blog more ALIVE!
